Upon my return to Riverwood, I find myself back at the Inn, instructed by the mysterious note-giver to ask for the "attic room". The innkeeper informs me that she doesn't have an attic room but instructs me to wait in another room (clearly not in the attic).
It turns out that the attic room, indeed the whole innkeeper occupation, is a ruse. Delphine introduces herself as a member of a secret society called the Blades. I've heard of this group, once the protectors of Cyrodiil's Emperor. They were hunted into extinction years ago, except for this woman apparently.
She has a rather crazy sounding theory that the dragons are coming back from the dead and is suspicious of my claim to be Dragonborn. I try to explain that I'm not claiming anything, but people keep insisting that's what I am. She hands over the horn I was supposed to retrieve and invites me to prove my Dragonborn... ness... How? Why slaying a dragon of course! She seems to know where the next one will surface, but apparently doesn't know how effective I was when the last one showed up. There's no convincing her otherwise so we trek off to somewhere in the far East of Skyrim to fight another Dragon...
When we get there, the black dragon that liberated me back at the beginning of my journey is there! He shouts some sort of power at an old burial mound and a dragon skeleton emerges and then materialises! By Akatosh, some crazy stuff happens at this end of the continent. I really should return to Summerset.
This black dragon says some rather rude things to me in a language I don't understand and promptly instructs the newly resurrected dragon to attack me. It occurs to me that if I could learn how to do that, I'd be set! While I'm distracted trying to conceive how I might resurrect a dragon, or even find one to resurrect, this new threat unleashes a mouthful of frost in my face. Here we go again...
Fortunately I'm again flanked by a mighty warrior. Or at least somebody who can wield a weapon and apparently used to slay Dragons for a living... or her ancestors did... or something.
It becomes my sole focus to keep this woman alive. I can literally do nothing more, so I just hang behind her and unleash the great power of my healing. Finally the great beast falls and dematerialises in a reversed manner to how it rematerialised not long before. There's the rush of power like before and Delphine is very impressed.
It's a little awkward trying to explain why, if I'm such a great hero, I did absolutely nothing to bring it down. I get the impression that she was expecting a little more from me. I kept her alive though, so she remains polite.
Convinced of my true Dragonbornity, she relaxes a little and explains that she has a plan to find out more about the Dragons. With plans to meet up in Riverwood, she leaves me to clean up the enormous skeleton we've left behind. Perhaps if I just sneak away nobody will notice...
